"An unforgettable experience! Discover traditional Japanese culture right here in the old castle town of Sendai!” PROGRAM SERIES 10!

Did you know that you can find an example of elegant teahouse architecture at "Mogasakian," located behind Dainenji-yama Park in Taihaku Ward, Sendai City? In 1967, a building located on Jozenji-dori Avenue, which was originally built in the Meiji period, was relocated and repurposed as a teahouse in Dainenji-yama Park. Every month we host programs for visitors to experience traditional Japanese culture, Sendai culture, and tea ceremony at the historical "Mogasakian" teahouse!

In the 10th installment of the series, we will hold a kimono dressing & tea ceremony experience at Mogasakian Teahouse.

【Guest Target】Elementary school students and older(※Elementary school students should be accompanied by a guardian.)
【No. of Participants】30 (accepted by order of application)
【Participation Fee】1,500 yen (500 yen ticket for tea ceremony sitting included)
【Kimono Rental Fee】3,000 yen (For people that don’t have a kimono. Please bring “tabi” or socks)
【Things to Bring】
A kimono you feel comfortable wearing. (Please use the provided obi belt from Nagoya).
A pair of tabi (traditional Japanese style socks), or regular socks if you don’t have any.
※Please wear a face mask while inside the building.
◆We will sit on the tatami mat floor, but we will also have folding chairs available. Please let us know if you need to use one at the event when you apply.

9:30 Reception Start
10:00 Session 1 Begins "Kimono wearing and wrapping an obi belt around a taiko drum”
Instructor: Minzoku Ishō Fukyū Kyōkai (‘National Dress Promotion Association’), Endo Sensei.
Demonstration: Introduction how to wear a kimono and how to tie an obi belt from Nagoya to a taiko drum.
11:15 Session 1 Finishes / Break Time 
11:20 Session 2 Begins “Matcha Experience”
Instructor: Urasenke Tea Master, Ono Sensei
Session 3: “Tea ceremony inside tatami room” (viewing only)
Instructor: Tamagawa Enshu Style Tea Master, Watanabe Sensei
※In order to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19, the group will be split into two during the 2nd and 3rd sessions and rotated for the experiences.

Also, visitors with over a 37.5℃ body temperature should refrain from joining the event.

*What to bring: Please prepare "one pair of socks" to change into when you take off your shoes at the entrance.
*Folding chairs are available for those who have difficulty sitting in the tatami room, so please let us know when you apply if you need them.
