"An unforgettable experience! Discover traditional Japanese culture right here in the old castle town of Sendai!” PROGRAM SERIES 8 for the 3rd year of Reiwa!
Did you know that you can find an example of teahouse architecture at "Mogasakian," located behind Dainenji-yama Park in Taihaku Ward, Sendai City? In 1967, a building originally built in the Meiji period and located on Jozenji-dori Avenue was relocated and repurposed as a teahouse in Dainenji-yama Park. Every month we host programs for visitors to experience traditional Japanese culture, Sendai culture, and tea ceremony at the historical "Mogasakian" teahouse!
In the 8th installment of the series, we will hold a tatami mat making workshop & tea ceremony experience at Mogasakian Teahouse. Tatami production is registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage as a traditional technique for making wooden structures.
