Experience Bonsai and Tea Ceremony at Mogasakian Teahouse

A miniature "bonsai" tree is said to be a small universe inside a pot. Once you have created your own bonsai, you will be served matcha (powdered green tea). Why don't you experience the "Japanese spirit" at the atmospheric Mogasakian teahouse, built in the Sukiya-zukuri style? Those who have experienced bonsai in 2020 or 2021 can learn how to care of their growing bonsai trees.

"An unforgettable experience! Discover traditional Japanese culture right here in the old castle town of Sendai!” PROGRAM SERIES 5 for 2022!

Did you know that you can find an example of teahouse architecture at "Mogasakian," located behind Dainenji-yama Park in Taihaku Ward, Sendai City? In 1967, a building originally built in the Meiji period and located on Jozenji-dori Avenue was relocated and repurposed as a teahouse in Dainenji-yama Park. Every month we host programs for visitors to experience traditional Japanese culture, Sendai culture, and tea ceremony at the historical "Mogasakian" teahouse!

For the 5th program in our series for this year, the first session will offer a chance for visitors to experience traditional Japanese culture through bonsai (caring for miniature potted trees). If you participated in this program in 2020 or 2021, you can bring your bonsai and learn how to take care of it as it grows.
