The exciting and colorful 'Suzume-odori' (‘Sparrow Dance’) dancers are a popular sight in Sendai festivals! Dancers jump, turn and wave their fans along with the 'Hayashi' festival music. This historic dance started in 1603 when stonemasons were constructing Sendai Castle for feudal lord and city founder Date Masamune. This dynamic form of leisure and entertainment looks like the hopping and spinning of a sparrow.

Now it is your turn to try! Learn how to perform 'Suzume-odori' with a veteran dancer and understand the passion of festival dancers! After dancing, have an after party at a local izakaya!

After the dancing is over it's time for the after party! At the local izakaya 'Senkichi' (in the same building where you dance) you can celebrate your new skills with a tasting set of three varieties of Japanese sake paired with tasty local food.
