Nagakan Dying Factory
Nagakan Dying Factory is the only remaining dyeing shop in "Minami-Someshi-machi," one of the artisan towns established by Date Masamune. Since 1887, our factory workers have produced various freehand and stencil dyeing primarily using indigo, which is widely known as a dye. Unlike "shibori-zome" (tie-dye), kata-zome (stencil dying) is one of the many dyeing techniques and is suitable for freely expressing set designs on fabric. In the "Indigo Dyeing" Stencil Dyeing Experience, you can choose from a variety of stencil dyes, including traditional Japanese patterns, patterns associated with Sendai, and modern arrangements of those patterns.
