Mysterious Matsushima: A Visit to a Spirtual Place
Try a unique running and walking tour around a beautiful bay area!
All year round.
Number of Participants
Goshuran is a running and walking tour of temples and shrines. The word “Goshurun” is a combination of the words “Goshuin” (temple seal collecting), running/walking, and Michelin, because we want to offer high quality.
Walk with a guide through historic sites and a spiritual place in Matsushima that you may have heard of but never really knew. We will walk around the Matsushima Coast area within a 2km radius of the Matsushima Kaigan Station (JR Senseki Line). Along the way we will show you secret “power spots.” By visiting these locations, you will feel some power or special energy. The total distance is 3-4km.
Since the Middle Ages, Matsushima has been called the Mt. Koya of northern Japan. Mt. Koya is a sacred mountain in Wakayama Prefecture (central Japan). That location is considered the center of Shingon Buddhism, a sect of Buddhism introduced to Japan by legendary priest Kobo Daishi. On our visit to historical sites and landmarks, we’ll focus on the spiritual locations of Matsushima, where high priests from all over the country visited for training. Let's experience mysterious Matsushima where the famous haiku poet Matsuo Basho once travelled. A local guide will share information not written in guidebooks, along with unique local customs.
