All year round.
Number of Participants
Goshuran is a running and walking tour of temples and shrines. The word“Goshurun”is a combination of the words “Goshuin”(temple seal collecting), running/walking, and Michelin, to show we strive for high quality.
Walk with a guide through historic sites and sights of a sacred place in Matsushima that you may have heard of but never really knew. We will walk around the Matsushima Coast area within a 2km radius of the JR Senseki Line, Matsushima Kaigan Station. Along the way we will show you secret“power spots.” By simply visiting you will experience the power of this sacred place. The distance is a little less than 3-4km.
Since the Middle Ages, Matsushima has been called the Mt. Koya of northern Japan. Mt. Koya is a sacred mountain in Wakayama Prefecture (central Japan), which is considered the center of Shingon Buddhism, a sect of Buddhism introduced to Japan by legendary priest Kobo Daishi. On our visit to historical sites and landmarks, we’ll focus on the sacred locations of Matsushima, where high priests from all over the country visited for training. Let's experience mysterious Matsushima where the famous haiku poet Matsuo Basho once travelled. A local guide will share information not written in guidebooks, along with unique local customs.
