Zunda, Sasakama, and Gyutan. These are the “BIG 3” famous dishes you must try when you visit Sendai. Zunda is a centuries-old crushed edamame sweet which can be enjoyed with mochi rice or as a modern zunda shake. Sasakama (also called sasakamaboko), is a bamboo leaf-shaped fish cake symbolic of the fertile fishing grounds of the Sanriku Coast with a connection to the Date Clan! And finally, Gyutan is grilled beef tongue, a juicy meat which is known throughout Japan thanks to traveling company workers.

This is a 2 hour walking tour which starts at Sendai Station. You can learn the history and culture of Sendai's famous foods and even get to taste them! See various sites of the city, including a local market, shopping arcades, retro alleys, and historical shrines and temples. Leave with happy memories and a happy stomach by experiencing our walking tour!

Course: JR Sendai Station ⇒ Asaichi Shopping Street or Nakakecho Shopping Street (varies depending on the day of the week) ⇒ Mitakisan Fudoin Temple ⇒ Abe Sasakama ⇒ Iroha Yokocho Alley ⇒ Nonaka Shrine (finish). ※Depending on the hours of the stores and day of the tour, the course may change.

Learn about and taste Sendai's most famous dishes on this fun walking tour! Reservations for private individual or group tours along the same course are available, but the conditions such as participation fee differ. Please contact us about your desired date and time.
