Gyutan, Zunda, Sasakama. These are the “BIG 3” famous dishes you must try on your visit to Sendai. Gyutan is grilled beef tongue, a juicy meat which is known throughout Japan thanks to traveling company workers. Zunda is a centuries-old crushed edamame sweet which can be enjoyed with mochi rice or as a modern zunda shake. Finally is the Sasakama (also called sasakamaboko), a bamboo leaf-shaped fish cake symbolic of the fertile fishing grounds of the Sanriku Coast with a connection to the Date Clan!
In this walking tour departing from Sendai Station, you’ll get to know Sendai in about 2 hours. While introducing and sampling these famous Sendai specialties, we will introduce you to “lucky locations” and “power spots” hidden around town. See various sites of the city, including a local market, shopping arcades, retro alleys, and historical shrines and temples. Leave with happy memories and a happy stomach by joining this compact tour.
Course: JR Sendai Station ⇒ Asaichi Shopping Street or Nakakecho Shopping Street (varies depending on the day of the week) ⇒ Mitakisan Fudoin Temple ⇒ Abe Sasakama ⇒ Iroha Yokocho Alley ⇒ Nonaka Shrine (finish). ※Depending on the hours of the stores and day of the tour, the course may change.
In addition to walking, you can taste delicious Sendai dishes. Depending on the date of the tour, the locations we visit may change. Reservations for private individual or group tours along the same course are available, but the conditions such as participation fee differ. Please contact us about your desired date and time.
