Sendai's compact city center means getting around is easy, whether that is walking, riding a bicycle, or taking the subway. Taking the subway in Sendai is simple, as there are only two lines. The south-north Namboku Line was completed in 1987 and operates between Tomizawa to Izumi-chuo. The east-west Tozai Line was completed in 2015, operating between Arai near the coast and Yagiyama, home of Sendai's beloved zoo.
